Most loft conversions will involve planning permission or building regulation approval. However, this is not as daunting as it sounds. Building inspectors are interested in two things:
Regulators are particularly interested in loft windows; both what they look like and who they overlook. Installing a skylight or a VELUX window which does not alter the line of house is one way to sidestep this issue.
If other houses in your street already have loft conversions none of this is likely to be a problem.
